Today was the first day that I did not feel hungry all day.  Pretty ironic since day 3 seemed to be a struggle.  Aside from starting to really want normal food, I feel good, sleeping well, but peeing a lot!  Sorry to throw that in there, but this shake drinking and drinking all this water is doing a number on me.  Now, if you know me, I already have a small bladder, so you can imagine what this is doing to me.  I am starting to consider it a work out regiment during my day.   My one real complaint about this SP detox is the pills.  It is SOOO hard to get down 7 pills 3 x daily.  Every-time I open the bottle and smell it, I almost gag.  Thankfully, this is only for the first 7 days….hallelujah!  So here it is:

Morning peppermint tea with a splash of almond milk

Breakfast: Egg grilled with a pinch of pesto (cheat!  I know) and SP shake made with almond milk, mixed berries, mango, banana and dash of Organic Stevia

NOTE:  all my shakes are made with the 3 powders given during this cleans.  SP complete-2 scoops, Whey Pro Complete-2 scoops, and whole foods fiber-1 scoop)

Snack: Brown rice and cauliflower puree combination from the night before

Lunch: Same shake as above

Dinner: Same shake as above ( I know, exciting!  But I really do like the shakes)

Snack: I will probably have an apple or a small salad in an hour or so

Shakes are recommend twice a day, but I really wanted a shake for lunch…whoops!  Kristi, is that okay??

Now, I will say right off the bat that this was no wonderful meal, but mixed with the right spices it could be great! Here is what I did:

-1 head cauliflower broken apart and boiled until softened
-In a separate pan, satuee onions, garlic and carrots in a touch of olive oil until soft
-I added about a 1/4 cup of almond milk for a thinner consistency
-combine all ingredients and mix to a puree with a masher or puree machine.

I chose to eat mine with a 1/2 cup of brown rice mixed in. Yes, it will look like baby food, but hell, it tastes good!

Good day readers!  Thank you for all your positive messages and comments…makes doing this all worth it!  So, all I have to say about today is, I was HUNGRY!  Im pretty sure I am not eating enough, or my “lack of creativity” is knocking on the door saying, “hello stupid, get creative!”  Now, outside of doing this detox, I love to cook.  I am typically really creative with how I put my food together and can whip up a meal pretty quick.  With that said, I don’t have everything at my fingertips here, so I need to think out side the box and work with what I have.  Today I am whipping together a cauliflower puree soup.  This is currently a work in progress, so Ill let you know how it turns out.

Todays revelation was that I am craving salts now over sugars.  Typically I have a strong sweet tooth that is almost unbearable, of which probably put me in the position that I am in today.  So, this salt craving is interesting.  Good?   Bad?  I don’t know, just glad Im not suffering through the day wanting a cookie.  Which I must admit today I really wanted a slice of cake!  Go figure!

Last thing I have to add, is that I just found out that my shakes can be taken with a meal, thank God!  I thought for the first 2 days that it was a full meal and found my self hungry a few hours later.  Here it is:

Started my day with some cantaloupe before a brisk walk/run around my neighborhood.

Breakfast: SP shake with almond milk, berries, small piece of banana, and dash of Organic Stevia

Snack: small salad made with mixed greens, cucumber, tomatoes and onions.

Lunch: Same salad with a side of steamed asparagus and lentils.

Snack: Carrots

Snack: SP shake with half almond milk, half water, mixed berried, mango, piece of banana and dash of Organic Stevia.

Dinner:  Brown rice steamed with carrots and onions and a side of my cauliflower puree soup.

Well, today was a perfect example of what a detox is like when you are not prepared.  I had to make a day trip down to Orange County (for those of you who do not know me, I live in LA) With that said, I was not really prepared with all the food, so had to make a quick trip to a local Trader Joe’s. One thing I would really like to talk about today is what is happening around me while  my detox journey unfolds.  Its seems as though while I took the leap of faith in health, others are taking notice.  The roommate and boyfriend quickly decide that they are going to eat veggies or fruit instead of pizza.  Better yet, the boyfriend started doing push-ups very randomly last night….let’s see how long that lasts!

Its a beautiful thing, not only is this my little health kick, but others around me are noticing and taking part…and its only day 2!  So, already I feel great that I am indirectly helping others think twice : )

The other thing that has been running though my head about this whole detox thing, is that why do we need to “detox”?  We should be eating like this anyways!  I guess that is the power of doing something like this now a days.

Okay, day 2.  Today was a bit challenging with the food cravings as I was hungry because I did not have food prepared for my day.  But again, it was pretty easy for me not to reach for just anything.

Breakfast: Peppermint tea and SP shake with almond milk and avocado (so good!)

Snack: Cantaloupe with Berries

Snack: Carrots and hard boiled egg ( I think that is a cheat..but hell I wont have one for the rest of the week : ( )

Lunch: (Salad) Mixed greens with tomato, cucumber, carrots, onions and 1/2 cup brown rice topped with rice vinegar and touch of virgin olive oil

Snack: Brown rice with steamed carrots and onions

Dinner: SP shake with almond milk and berries with a small scoop of avocado.

I have to add: Day 1 I did a moderate 2 mile fast walk in the morning and Day 2, I am about to do some body exercises.  Working out during this detox is recommend, 30-40 min per day.

The first thing I have to say for day 1, is that if you are not dedicated to this process, you will not make it!  Then the second thing I have to say is that, day 1 was easy!  Fortunately for me, I am 100% in!  I already feel better about what I am putting into my body and I never have that “full” feeling that always leaves me bloated and lazy.  Now the hard part is the people around you not taking part in the process.  You have to smell and watch them eating all the “yummy” good smelling food (insert sad face).  Then, to put icing on the cake, you have the people around you “accidentally” feeding you things that you want to eat….like something deliciously sweet!  Not fair!  Okay, so aside from that, today was easy breezy.  I made sure to prepare everything ahead of time so I knew exactly what I was going to eat that day:

Breakfast:  Chamomile tea and SP Shake with almond milk and berries.

Snack: Carrots

Lunch: (Salad) Mixed greens with spinach, carrots, onions, tomatoes, cucumber and 1/2 cup brown rice.

Snack: Carrots

Dinner: SP Shake with almond milk, berries and added “greens first”.

Dessert: Cantaloupe and blackberries.

Now I have to say, I really disliked the “greens first” stuff.  Kristi gave me this to try to add zest to my shakes, but it just did not do the trick for me.  It was almost painful to drink the shake, and from now on, Ill stick to the good ol’ recipe : )

Good evening!  So I completed my first round of food shopping at my local Trader Joe’s.  Now, this was much easier than I thought.  I knew I could only get a huge load of veggies of my choice.  Now, I must say, I am pretty picky.  This task was not as hard as I thought.  My list included, lost of lettuce, asparagus, mushrooms, cauliflower,  carrots, cucumber and tomatoes.  Now I know you might think to your self,  ”there are SO many more veggies out there”, but hey, baby steps.  It was actually very ironic how much easier shopping became.  I was done in 5 minutes.  I did a “B” line straight to the produce section grabbed what I needed and, BAM, finito!  So here I go!  Ready for day 1!

Hello All!  I never thought I would ever be doing a blog type thing, but here I am putting my story out on the table.  So, I decided a few weeks back (okay a few days ago, really) to dive into doing a detox, a 21 day purification detox to be exact starting Monday May 17th.  To be very clear, it was really not my idea, but an old friend from high school,  Kristi Acuna, a Holistic Health Practitioner (check our her website here).  If I can say anything about her, it is that she is sweet, funny and real.  I knew I loved her for a reason back then!  So in the past 6 months I have been, like many other people, finding out more and more about what we are putting into our body.  I know I have been freaked out for a while but just now decided to do something about it.  Recently I made a few changes in my life like eating only organic meats, organic eggs and really watching what I put into my body.  Granted, a chocolate chip cookie can jump into my mouth at any given time of my day.  Just saying.  So here comes my breaking point.  Almost a month ago, I made the decision to stop taking birth control.   Birth control is a huge factor in an unhealthy lifestyle that leads to so many problem women face now, case and fact, cancer.   Now, I am not about to ramble on how or why, because frankly, I would sound stupid.  I urge you to do your own research and really think twice about putting things like that into your body, let alone certain foods.   Blah blah blah, okay fast forward.  Since I have been off birth control for about 2 weeks, I noticed a few changes, for example, my normal jeans didn’t fit me anymore!  (insert me having a meltdown and sobbing)  I shot Kristi a quick message and she responded right away with,  ”Detox!”.  So here I am about to document my 21 days.  Now, I know this will not be easy, especially with me being an avid eater and grazer.  I thought this would be a fun way for the ones I love to get a glimps into my dive.  I know other’s blogs have helped me to get a better understanding, so this is me giving back.  Please feel to ask all your questions you want.  Wish me luck!
